Gaps are left at the end of the seams. Wide gaps and overlaps. The term acceptable seam does not mean invisible seam. Seams are visible especially when you know where they are.

While this is an admirable goal invisible seams should never be promised. The reality is that carpet seams are unavoidable. Do not apply too much as you only want to cover the spot that the seam itself is located at. Add a seam sealer material around the backing area or the floor base.

Failure to explain why a carpet seam is not guaranteed to be invisible. There are ways to make them almost. Depending on the size and traffic of a room you can choose carpets where seams will be less noticeable. While an invisible carpet seam is not possible there are many times when a carpet seam has been constructed incorrectly and is much more visible than it should be.

A seam should have the carpet backings flush to each other without gaps and without. Sealing them as well. Carpet seaming is done in more obvious spots. In addition proper planning for seam placement in a room is key to making seams less obtrusive or obvious.

As an inspector it is my job to inspect the seam and make a determination about whether it was constructed in accordance with the industry standard. While some carpets hide it better than others it is important to realize that seams will never be invisible. They say seams may not be invisible that doesn t mean you shouldn t make every effort to reach that goal. Failure to match any patterning in the carpet.

In fact it is advisable for the sales person to tell the consumer in advance of the installation that the seams cannot be guaranteed invisible. Make sure the seam sealer moves into the raw edges of the carpet as you get the surface sealed up right. Different carpets will seam differently. While invisible carpet seams are not always possible it is the goal of many great installers to construct invisible seams.

Open the area around the carpet that the seam is located at. I sometimes see heat distortion from the hot irons think about it the shape of it underneath the carpet angles it upward could be enough to change its memory for certain lighting to be an eye catcher. But a good carpet installer will be able to place it in such a way it has minimal impact.
